Missional Simplicity

I really am becoming quite fond of the work missional.  I use it a lot as it helps me to remember what I am to be about. I just finished reading Richard Foster’s book Simplicity and it was a great work.  I know that the book has been around forever, I even had an old hard cover version on my shelf that I actually rediscovered after I started reading the copy that Billy Bean sent.  The good news is that having two copies I was able to lend one to my friend Tracy who is enjoying her read as much as I did . . . perhaps even more.

I would encourage anyone who has not read the book to consider taking a couple of nights to read through it.  It took me more than a month, but I read at night and old age and evening reading is not a good formula for progress.  I am usually asleep with 30 minutes of picking up any book after 9:00PM.  Char would say it is more like 10 minutes, but I like to pretend I do better than that.  Palmer, my dear friend and mentor said “read more books, watch less TV.” I still enjoy watching TV when I need to zone, but TV watching has become pretty rare, and I am happy that I have made the break.  I must add that I am not one of those who feels that people who don’t watch TV or that don’t own a TV are more spiritual, quite the opposite . . . I think TV is a great tool for many things, like watching the Badgers play football – If only Marquette had a football team, I am sure that it would be far superior to the Badgers, but alas, Catholic Universities focus more on intellectual pursuits.  (This comment is for my friend Christy . . . sort of an inside ribbing)

Anyway – back to Foster; the book is good, you can borrow my other copy if you would like . . . I don’t think that you’ll be disappointed.
