Missional Mindset in Postmodern World

Last night Char and I went to Ravinia with a friend to see Peter, Paul, and Mary.  What occurred to me during the show is that these folks (PP&M) have managed to hold onto the ideology that they promoted during the early to late 60s.  For me, hearing this wonderful trio singing songs, that you had to buy to hear back in the 60s, because they were too radical for radio was great.  It was interesting to hear Peter talk between songs about justice, mercy, the scourge of inequality with all the fervor of the by gone days, which simply means that some people have not lost the passion for justice, their voice has merely been quieted over time.  Not to hold PP&M up as the end all example, my point is that most everything they talked and sang about last night are the things that all of us who claim to be followers of Jesus should be talking about and working toward.  The message of Jesus is clear . . . Love God, love one another.  Not a lot of gray area there.

We should be working for justice, freedom, spiritual and physical release and we should be loving one another better than we are presently doing.  Let’s consider scrapping the building programs, and leave the carpeting that we already have in place and use those funds to actually further kingdom work with people who know and with those who don’t know what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Another plug here for Dallas Willard’s latest book . . . most excellent work on being Disciples not just Christians.
