I received a very nice note from Emergent Village today. I talked with Tony Jones a few weeks back, thanking him for all he is doing through Emergent Village and for keeping all of us who are interested appraised of things happening in the missional/emergent world. I also had a chance to share with Tony what I am doing through Pastors Retreat. I let Tony know that I was very interested in making sure that pastors who are working in church plants and small, by design, churches were aware of the retreats that we offer pastors. So any way that was that, until today . . . Tony asked James Mills to get in touch with me to ask whether I would like to have an article done on our ministry, to appear in the next Emergent/C news letter. What a nice surprise. The more I get to know different people in this very exciting world of missional/emerging (choose a lable of your liking) the more blessed I become. These are indeed some very wonderful folks. Tomorrow I will be hooking us with Steve Argue for coffee . . . he is without a doubt one of the finest guys I have had the opportunity to meet and know.
Still reading Simplicity by Foster. . . this is taking longer than it should because I am a slow and distracted reader. Bill introduced a new book by Willard and I have split my slow reading time between the two books.
Something that I read tonight in a book that Palmer gave to me last year;
What discipline is required for the future leader to overcome the temptation of individual heroism? I would like to propose the discipline of confession and forgiveness. Just as the future leaders must be mystics deeply steeped in contemplative prayer, so also must they be persons always willing to confess their own brokenness and ask for forgiveness from those to whom they minister.
